Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) is the first woman of colour to receive the Best Director’s Academy Award. Nomadland won Best Picture as well. Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) is Korea’s first best supporter. Pixar’s Soul won the Best Animated Feature and became the first film to be awarded without being featured in U.S. cinemas.
